Enrichment of his family and friends I think, and an admiration for other strongmen

Having just written a long comment that disappeared into the ether, I will keep it short. Why do you think Trump thinks the UK is stupid for doing the Chagos deal? The answer is that the deal, however ham-fisted, was the UK's response to an adverse judgement in an international court. How stupid of us! If you think about the implications of this rebuke from Trump, it all hangs together.

Except, just 6 months ago...

Marco Rubio, Trump's Secretary of State (Foreign Secretary) in May 2025

"The US welcomes the historic agreement between the UK and Mauritius on the future of the Chagos Archipelago. This agreement secures the operation of the joint US-UK military facility at Diego Garcia, critical to security"

We need instead to look for explanation of Trump's words and actions in the irrational world of narcissism and psychopathy and, probably, worsening dementia.

Coming shortly to a cinema near you – “the Madness of King Don”.

Mugabe is what he's morphing into, obviously with an economy and military that Mugabe could only dream of

Thank you for your very valuable comments on the current situation in the United States. These behaviours remind me of the time when my daughter was too young to understand any explanation. She switched on our gas stove (the gas had no odour) and I swiftly switched it off. Or the entire 16 floors would have exploded.

Here, we seem to be sleepwalking into certain world wars because those responsible refuse to correct these actions. They have the power but not the political will.
