Thing is, we're *already* living under a radically illiberal government. What's going on now isn't the "dress rehearsal" for right-wing authoritarianism, it *is* right-wing authoritarianism. The victims of the current Labour government are no less brutalised (or dead, in some cases) for it being a Labour government.
Scaremongering about a hypothetical future fascist government detracts from the fact that we are under a fascist government *right now*. The genocide against trans people is being committed by the government *right now*; the Palestinian genocide is being materially supported by the goverment *right now*; the weaponisation of terrorism law against protesters and people who have only broken things and not people is being done by the government *right now*.
No lectern though! I don't think Harold Wilson, Jim Callaghan or Margaret Thatcher had lecterns. It either started with Major or Blair I think
